If you read our last blog, Spray Tan vs. Tanning Bed, and you decided you want to give a spray tan a shot, you’ll want to know how to prepare for your session. Nova Tans wants you to look and feel fabulous for your getaway vacation or any other special event that you have coming up and a spray tan is a great way to make that happen. We also want you to be equipped with all of the information you need to make sure the tan goes on smooth and lasts for as long as possible. Here are our top tips.
Exfoliate
For silky smooth and beautiful skin, women should be exfoliating regularly anyway, especially knees, elbows, and any other problem areas. To do this properly, hop in the shower to warm up your skin and use a gentle exfoliator that will remove any dry or dead skin before your treatment. Preparing your skin like this will allow the spray tan solution to be applied evenly onto your skin.
Wax
Leg, arm, and facial hair can get in the way of the spray tan solution and cause uneven distribution. And no one wants an uneven tan. Waxing should ideally be done at least 48 hours in advance of your session to give your skin’s pores a chance to close. If you can’t get around to waxing, or don’t want to spend the additional money, at least give your body a close shave.
Moisturize
With the dry Northern Colorado air, our skin needs as much moisturizer as possible, especially in the autumn weather and heading into winter. To prevent dry and cracking skin and to provide a smooth foundation for your spray tan, use a high-quality moisturizer the night before. To lock in the moisture, work lotion into your skin and cozy up with a long sleeve shirt, yoga pants, and socks to allow the lotion to soak into your skin.
Rinse and Wash
If you’re planning on coming into Nova Tans for a spray tan in the afternoon after a day of running errands or working out, give yourself some time to rinse and wash off any makeup, perfume, oils, or moisturizers. The cleaner your skin is, the smoother the spray tan solution will be applied to your skin.
Clothing
Most solutions will wash off, but during your session, wear a thong that you don’t mind getting stained. Plan on wearing loose, cotton clothing after your session. If you have clothing without a waistband, that would be ideal to prevent the color from rubbing off. A hair cap will be provided, but bring along a hair tie to keep your hair back and spray tan free.
